Maharani Bagh Community Centre Should Be Converted into A Sports & Cultural Club

The Community Centre of Maharani Bagh is a well-constructed building. However, as the building  is not being optimally used to contribute to the welfare of the colony residents.

Young mothers and children have now started feeling that there is no place in the colony for them to organise small community events and functions. Yoga and dance classes for children on weekends are some of the demands that have been raised by the residents. One resident has recommended that we set up an indoor golf facility to play and learn the full game of golf as played in a golf course and the space we need in 15 ft x 15 ft only.

Some other suggestions that have been put forth are: 1. Please ensure a day in the week where the kids can come with their own toys and play and interact with the neighboring kids; 2. Suggest last Sunday or Saturday evening for colony get together, Maybe plan a tambola or something; 3. Please have a sports day in the winters where all the residents can be involved; 4. Please get the badminton court fixed, it’s broken and kids who skate there have fallen multiple times.

All these suggestions indicate that the residents are crying for a sports and cultural center within the colony and what better place than converting Maharani Bagh Community Center into one. Residents of both our neighbouring colonies New Friends Colony and Friends Colony are enjoying full fledged clubs where all kinds of sports and cultural events are organised on daily basis. Why are we lagging behind. One reason could be that for many years our RWA and the society are not in sync, with the result the residents are suffering.

The society’s focus is to generate funds for the center by giving the premises on hire. The present rates for hiring the premises may be reasonable for commercial and business houses but they are very very expensive for the colony residents who wish to organise events for their children or senior citizens. With the result the management gives priority to commercial events on weekends and if the residents have a program or an event of their own, they are asked to vacate irrespective that it’s a children’s program. This is really sad and demoralising for the young ones and the young mothers.

Some discussions and meetings of the residents have already started regarding this issue with the management. We suggest that some professionals are hired to take up this as a project and implemented even if it takes a few years to complete.
