Let us be realistic – Life is full of luck, like getting dealt a good hand, or simply by being in the right place at the right time. Some people get luck handed to them. It can happen heroically or by a simple coincidence; but there are those who don’t get luck on a shiny platter, who end up in the wrong place at the wrong time – we unlucky ones are definitely the majority. I think we may be considering too much the good luck of the early bird and not enough the bad luck of the early worm.
When things are going our way we magnanimously and modestly declare that whatever we have achieved is our Destiny and when things are not going our way, we don’t call it destiny; we call it injustice, treachery, or simple bad luck.
As the evening progressed and the spirits soared, our bonhomie was at peak levels. We all started to agree on the fundamental truths of being lucky – that the only thing that overcomes hard luck is hard work. The luck of having talent is not enough; one must also have a talent for luck. The world is like a reverse casino. In a casino, if you gamble long enough you’re certainly going to lose. But in the real world where the only thing you’re gambling is, say, your time or your embarrassment, then the more stuff you do the more you give luck a chance to find you.
In this magical yeh-dosti-hum-nahi-chodengey moment, we agreed that no person can be successful without ABILITY. Ability here means his capability and will to make the effort to perform at his max potential. However, ability alone is not sufficient. With ability you also need opportunity to be at the right time at the right place. But even when both ability and opportunity are there, the person’s KARMA will decide if he can recognize the opportunity and act accordingly. Karma will also ensure that opportunities keep coming to the person. Karma here is with reference to the backlog of good and bad actions done in past (this life and previous ones).
Luck is thus the convergence of ability, opportunity and karma.
Wow! We had decoded it together.
We all returned home listening to the horrendous songs being played by our dear friend in the car but with the strange comfort of knowing for sure that no matter what happens today, the Sun will rise again tomorrow.
So indeed, Luck does hold!
