Issues Plaguing GK-I that need Central Government Intervention
Unlike other States the Role of a Lok Sabha MP has a much greater significance in a Half State like Delhi and can have a much greater impact on Delhi Citizen’s Life.
Delhi being deprived the status of Full Statehood, its true needs can only be addressed through Proactive Members of Parliament, well versed with Grass-root understanding of the Multiplicity of Authority and Center-State interplay.
Delhi has long suffered due to the Tussle for Control over Land a& Police between the Center and State, none of it to Serve Society Efficiently.
Issues Plaguing the city that need Central Government Intervention 1. Huge shortfall in Police strength in every PS; 2. DDA destroying residential character of planned colonies; 3. Land being with DDA, no land available for Club & Recreation; 4. Public Utility & School Land being allowed to be sold to private entities straining Social Infrastructure; 5. Municipal Liability Law to make Authorities Accountable to Citizens…… the list is long.
Let us take Police for example, there is a huge Shortfall of Staff in every Police Station, due to deployment of personnel on Security Duty of so called VVIP’s. VIP Security cannot be at the expense of Public Security, thus turning Delhi into the most unsafe Metro City.
DDA’s Land Management has destroyed the Residential Character of planned posh Colonies by allowing Mixed Land Use (MLU) which spells the Death Knell for Planned Development. Delhi today is a NONSTOP MARKET PLACE with traffic Crisscrossing across the city giving no respite from traffic snarls, with peak hour traffic at any time of the day.
Land being with DDA, Delhi residents have no say on how the Land Parcels can be utilized for Public Needs. Most RWA’s have been requesting land for Club & Recreation, a Playground for Children etc but DDA under the Center has profit as the only motive. DDA that was formed for the Housing needs of a Developing Capital City has become a Property Dealer.
Public Utility & School Land is being allowed land-use change and sold to private entities straining social infrastructure. The Green Character of a Low-Rise City in Seismic Zone IV is being converted into a Commercial Hub Far Exceeding the Carrying Capacity and Population Density as enshrined in DDA’s own Aims & Object and Master Plan.
There is a crying need for a ‘Municipal Liability Law’ to make Authorities Accountable to Citizens. A naked live electrical wire can be fatal, Citizen may die on the road due to Pothole or encroachment or faulty engineering or construction waste left unguarded but no one is held accountable.
