Often, I have been visiting my family, especially my parents who used to live in Bihar but relocated themselves in Sector-50 of Noida back in 2015. Looking hindsight, I realize that my parents’ sacrifice to move away from their loving friends and extended families in Bihar was detrimental for their wellbeing. We the children thought that we were asking them to do the right thing but that was not so. We all love our friends more than family for various reasons – laughing and spending time with long time friends have been proven a great medicine for being well, physically and mentally. It wouldn’t be otherwise when I say that most parents do not find full satisfaction in their eighties with their children and grand children only; rather, they also need good friends.
My father, being a social personality in Bihar, was in fact torn between prospect of better health care in Noida and zero social activities in his new community of Noida. And, that became one of the main reasons for tension in his year eighty-nine. Unfortunately, he left this world only a year of living in his purchased flat in Kailash Dham. I tried my best to reach near him before his death, but it was too late. Since 2016 October, after passing of my dear father, my attention has been on my mother. She lost her best companion of 68 years. Unbelievably, she has managed her physical and mental health sound till now. We all are very proud of her life style. Long story short, she always refused to leave her present home in India for USA. Thanks God, one of her youngest sons is living only few steps away in Kailash Dham. He has been taking care of her and all of us are proud of him!
The readers might be wondering how she manages her daily life! It is important to know that a caretaker has been living with my parents for last 40 years. He grew up with my parents and his family (wife, 3 boys and a girl) has been well taken care by my parents and us three children. If this caretaker was not with us today, we would have found ourselves in a very different situation. Things are running as per my mother’s wish and I am thankful to God. Indeed, I find Sector-50, especially Kailash Dham, a great place; occupied by good people and surrounded by all kind of good facilities
(The author is currently visiting his 93-year-old mother, who lives in Kailash Dham. He lives in Lansing, Michigan (USA), and visits her twice a year.)
