End goal – 100% Waste Segregation
In 2020, VVWA began implementing the Waste Management Rules 2016. Covid inevitably delayed the project. The challenges in Waste Management in Vasant Vihar are immense. The biggest challenge is to bring all the blocks under the same Waste Management under one set of rules and one agency.
The initial experiment with SSIL did not yield the necessary results. Over the past few months VVWA have had extensive discussions with Chintan. Chintan is a Waste Management agency that is doing extensive work in the field. They have been enlisted by MCD as an approved agency.
Further to the discussions, a protocol was signed. They have started work in A & C blocks, and gradually will add other blocks to complete the process. Their initial progress has been good. As and when the work begins to pick up, we look for a zero waste colony, having 100% segregation and no Dhalaos.
In the coming few months, possibly earlier, Chintan will also start handling Plastic Waste and E-waste. This will also bring compliance with Plastic Waste Management Rules 2021.
