Lohri, a traditional Punjabi festival, marks the beginning of the end of winter and the onset of longer days. It is a celebration of the harvest season, fertility, and the triumph of good over evil. The festival is deeply rooted in Punjabi culture and is observed with great enthusiasm and fervour.
On the night of Sunday, 13 January, the residents gathered in the central lawns of Espacia to celebrate Lohri. The festivities commenced with Pandit Ji performing the traditional pooja and rituals, followed by the lighting of the holy fire.
The gathering of Espacians enthusiastically offered popcorn and sweets to the flames, encircling the fire and moving around it in a circular motion, dancing to the rhythmic beats of the Dhol.
The in-house speakers added to the festive atmosphere, playing popular Punjabi folk songs that got everyone dancing energetically, welcoming the onset of the new season. The cool winter evening was made even more enjoyable with the availability of delicious food stalls, offering a variety of treats on a payment basis.
The Kadak chai, a special winter delight, was a huge hit among the residents, who savoured every sip in the chilly evening.
As the night drew to a close, the residents bid farewell to the winter season, eagerly looking forward to the longer days and warmer nights ahead and anticipating next year’s Lohri celebration in Espacia.
