The festival of Lohri was celebrated at the central park of Mahagun Mezzaria with great fun and fervour on 13 January. It is one of the main festivals of northern India, especially from the region of Punjab and is celebrated during the peak winter season. The residents gathered in good strength at the scheduled time at the venue for the celebrations. Though everyone remained confined indoors during the day time due to the cold but participated in the celebrations dancing on the beats of dhol and nagara.
The festivities started with Puja ceremony and the sacred fire was lit with the chanting of Mantras. No sooner did the fire reach its peak, the residents started performing parikarmas around the holy fire and offered the mixture of Moongfali, Revri, Chirwa, Phulle (Popcorns) and Tils etc. to the rising flames with prayers as a tradition. The residents greeted each other by wishing Happy Lohri.
