When I saw the movie Damini more than decades ago and heard. Tara Singh of Ghadar 1 and 2 fame a.k.a Sunny Deol shouting Taarik pe Taarik, I was amused and shocked at what that dialogue was trying to convey about our legal-justice system. I have heard numerous such instances of delayed justice from friends and family but the liquor shop case in South City 1 is my first personal such experience.
As mentioned in the last issue, a liquor shop has been opened near the entrance of A and B block despite objections and formal complaints by Silokhra village and South City residents, school and RWA. A court case has also been registered and find below the update on the case.
1st hearing – The case could not be heard as the Excise department was not present.
2nd hearing – A notice was issued to the Excise department and a local commissioner was appointed and told to measure the exact distance between the ancient temple and the liquor shop. Our advocate promptly got this done in 3-4 days. May residents of A and B block and RWA representatives of SCRWA and South City Heights be deposed before the commissioner on the evening of 7th August.
3rd hearing – The case could not be heard due to the death of an official in district courts.
4th hearing – The case could not be heard as the staff in District Court went on a strike ads one judge was arrested.
5th hearing – The judges asked the liquor shop owners to bring ownership details.
6th hearing – The case could not be heard due to the death of an advocate practising in the Gurgaon district court.
Meanwhile, the liquor shop is doing brisk business as are all the food and snack stalls that have been set at the location, and poor residents can practically hear this song every time we pass the area:
Chaar bottle vodka
Kaam mera roz ka
Na mujhko koi roke
Na kisi ne roka
