After the current Plots RWA assumed office, as part of its community-building initiatives, a tradition was started of sharing our blessings with the less privileged. When the first message was put out, we were not sure how many would participate in the initiative. We were taken pleasantly by surprise when, within a few hours of putting out the message, over a lakh rupees were collected, which were then used for buying pressure cookers and a box of mithai for the maintenance staff.
The practice continues, and so does the trend. Within hours of the message getting relayed on the Plots RWA official broadcast group, residents step forward and contribute generously towards making the Diwali truly special for our maintenance staff. And the funds keep coming in even after the festival is over. The leftover funds are then utilized towards colony welfare.
This year, we made contributions to the tune of 2.3 lakhs, which were used to buy winter blankets for the staff. So far, we have gifted pressure cookers, tiffins, and blankets, of which the latter were found to be most sought after; hence, it was decided to buy them again. They are bought through a vendor that gives them at a discounted price for bulk orders.
The gifts are then distributed in a small ceremony on small Diwali, which is attended by the governing body members and residents alike. The staff calls it a day post-ceremony and goes back home to share the generosity of the residents with their families.
We thank all our donors for opening their hearts and wallets and lighting up the Diwali for all alike.
