Today beauty pageants have come a long way and are much more evolved, “… Its larger, a whole package now,” Bannya Basu (residing in T/7, apt P-3/17, Silver City) related her lovely 4-day experience of staying with other participants. It’s about a complete personality!
On 28 October she was crowned Mrs India Diva 2023, 2nd Runners-up in the Classic category (above 40). The event was held at Leela Convention Centre, Delhi. “We bonded warmly, like a large family, where all helped each other; never felt that we were competing. It was a great learning from the younger participants, and we gained a lot from each other – their freshness and our experience,” she told.
Mrs Basu carries a rich professional experience which her soft refined demeanour speaks of. She has groomed many a personalities and participants to various contests. Having worked in hospitality sector, in Taj Bengal Hotel and Air India as cabin crew, she could have been a ‘queen’ much earlier.
However, desire to have a fulfilled family life made her take VRS after 14 years of active work to be with her son; to enjoy his growing years with contentment along with her husband, Joy Basu, who is senior advocate at Supreme Court. After schooling, their son went to study in UK and now works in London.
She believes, “Life is not about finding yourself. Life is about creating yourself”.
Even while busy with family commitments, she leads a disciplined regulated routine. “My day starts with yoga and meditation.”
She practices Buddhism (Soka Gakki). Work time starts at around 10.30 am and by 5.30 pm she finishes her day’s job, which can be flexible if required.
Her ‘me time’ is devoted to cooking, with friends or watching movies.
Having grown up in Kolkata, she moved to Delhi after marriage in 1995 and stayed in GK 2, South Delhi. Due to schooling of her son they shifted to Noida. They are happy at their decision to select Silver City, Sector 93, as their home. “Here we have made nice set of friends. The society is friendly and we have lot of cultural events. We are here like an extended family,” she shared with delight.
“When young, I had the best of professional career and had best of family time. Now, at 56 its a come-back time for me — the 2nd innings of my career!”
We wish Mrs Basu all the best in all her endeavours.
