Ladies Club Picnic Sponsored by a Curd Company
Last month, in one of the most well-kept parks of 15A, Kamayani Park which is right in front of my house, I saw some unusual activity. Chairs with clean white covers were being arranged. It was somewhat strange because the park, which is extensively patronized by the residents and small children, had never seen any such organised activity or social function in the past few years.
Suddenly, while driving around the park I noticed shawls hanging on metal hangers and some young professional youngsters working on the area and getting the place ready for a presentation.
I was told that it was a Ladies Club picnic program. A van promoting a new curd drove inside the park, leaving crater-like marks in the wet grassy lawn. A big sedan was also brought inside.
When the food was laid out, the RWA staff and security guards were spotted shooing away stray dogs, cats and birds with lathis. Wonder where the stray dog activists were – or did they choose to ignore the shenanigans?
How did the Ladies Club get permission to hold a commercial event like this in a park where the RWA doesn’t allow a resident’s car to be parked on the ramp, even in an emergency?
I called our editor Minakshi Goil, who is the RWA Vice-President and the convener of Horticulture, and she was not aware of the magnitude event. She checked with President Sial and he said that he was told that it was just a picnic. She was not happy because the Association Secretary and the staff bypassed her or else she would not have allowed a commercial event with a misnomer of a picnic, and that too in the park.
The misery of Kamayani Park did not end that day because for the next few days the park was patronized by stray dogs sniffing around for food, and our small children could not play in the park because they were afraid of the dogs.
