Our society, Lotus Boulevard, has grown by leaps and bounds within a short span of a few years. In the year 2017, a group of like-minded people who are deeply connected with the culture and festivities of Bengal and other eastern parts of India, residing in LB, came together and formed ‘Lotus Boulevard Sanskritik Samity (LBSS)’ with the objective to celebrate the rich culture and festivals within our society.
LBSS has grown bigger and better with over 100 members, yet the objective remains the same – to responsibly celebrate the festivities which are both inclusive and eco-friendly.
As in previous events, this year too, the members of LBSS celebrated Saraswati Puja on Basant Panchmi, Sunday, 2 February, in the society’s Yoga room.
Saraswati Puja is more than just an annual religious festival; it is to worship the Goddess of knowledge, learning, art, career and music.
Residents got dressed in their traditional yellow ethnic attire: boys in yellow kurta-pyjamas and girls in yellow sarees to offer ‘Pushpanjali’ to Maa Saraswati, the Goddess of Learning.
One interesting fact is that, on this day, when the Goddess of Learning is worshipped, no one is supposed to read textbooks, story books, newspapers or magazines. Consequently, children were extremely happy that they could play and have fun the entire day.
Kids helped in their own way by making beautiful paper chains, origamis and other paper decorations.
LBSS maintained an eco-friendly theme for Saraswati Puja. A chemical-free clay idol was worshipped, minimum plastic material was used in the Puja, no non-biodegradable material was put in Yamuna River during the immersion process.
We pray to Maa Saraswati to shower her blessings and beneficence on us all with knowledge, prosperity and wisdom.
