On the 12th of April, the Ladies Club Basant Vihar held a General Meeting to commemorate two momentous occasions – the founder’s day and Baisakhi. The cel-ebrations were inaugurated
by the President Mrs Shashi Bansal along with her Secretary Mrs.Mohini Jain.
The Ladies Club Vasant Vihar, which was established on April 16th, 1975, has thrived for 48 years, growing from its humble beginnings of just 21 members to a thriving community of 300 strong women from diverse age groups, ranging from 40-plus to 85-plus.The meeting used to take place at members homes with home cooked food. And as the membership increased the meeting started happening in Kalyan Kendra but home cooked food by the members still continued to be served.
Baisakhi, a harvest festival that also marks the Punjabi New Year, was the centerpiece of the celebration. The festival is a time when farmers and their families rejoice in their plentiful harvests. The festivities began with a series of captivating performances, a soulful Punjabi song by Usha Gupta, a witty poetic satire narrated by Vipula Ji and a hindi poem by Gayatri Vaish ji followed by a mesmerizing song performed by Nimma Ji that enraptured the entire audience.
Several members of the club gave solo dance performances, including Alka Sheel, Archana Khandelwal, and Meena Mathur, who showcased their skills with old Bollywood numbers. Our Vice President Mrs. Anita Rai Ji and her friends dazzled the audience with their graceful dance moves during their performance of Punjabi Tappe. Sadhna Khurrana, Pragati, and their friends performed a medley of scintillating Bollywood songs that kept the audience enthralled.
However, the highlight of the event was the performance by the younger members, who were also the daughter-in-laws of existing members. They captivated the audience with their mix of Bollywood and Rajasthani folk songs. It was all soulfully compèred and convened by our Treasure Anukampa ji , binding all together was Joint Secretary Pooja Deewan.
The event exuded a positive and joyful atmosphere, and it was heartening to see the senior members performing with equal enthusiasm as the younger ones. Some members shared their thoughts on how seeing the older members enjoying life with such vigor inspired them to do the same. The event’s key takeaway was the power of community, where people from all walks of life come together to celebrate and spread happiness and harmony.
