As February is the month of Vasant and Maa Saraswati is worshipped as the Goddess of Vasant, this event was started with Saraswati Vandana sung by Shivani Chaturvedi.
The meet was anchored by Suneet Kaur Harneja.First came the Fancy dress competition, where participants were asked to represent a state wearing its traditional attire and don traditional jewellery.
Apart from wearing a traditional outfit, participants also had to speak about the state they were representing.
In this category, Reena Kohli was the first participant wearing a feran and Kashmiri jewellery.
Second was Shashi Mathur who was dressed up as a puppet. She did a beautiful puppet dance of Rajasthan.
Garima Gupta flaunted a traditional Bengali-style saree with Dhunuchi in her hand. She did a few dance steps of Dhunuchi. Charu Jain was in the famous Kanjivaram saree of Tamil Nadu with traditional temple jewellery. She showcased a few steps of Bharatnatyam. Rachna Pandey represented traditional Rajasthani clothing, specifically that worn by the ladies of Royal families on special occasions. She held a Thali in her hands with a lit diya and flower petals. She enacted a famous song of Rajasthan, ”Kesariya Balam aawo Ni padharo mhare des”.
And last but not the least, the charming Rupanjali Saikia was dressed up in Bodo tribal clothes. She spoke about her dress and did a few steps of a tribal dance.
Uma Bagla and Smita Shah were the judges.
Rupanjali Saikia got the first prize and Rachna Pandey got the second prize. All the participants were given gifts.
Next came the Ramp Walk in traditional Sarees. Participants flaunted their beautiful traditional sarees from different states. First was Shobha Juneja in her beautiful Kanjivaram saree. Rekha Chandra wore a beautiful traditional saree of Andhra Pradesh, the Pochampalli. Alka Kishore wore a lovely Katha Saree of Bengal. Anita Gupta was draped in a traditional Banarasi saree from her wedding trousseau. Ranjana Bajaj again in a Banarsi saree which was very different from the usual Banarasi sarees. It was a Banarasi ikkat saree, which she bought from Banaras at the time of her wedding. The last participant was Sheela Gupta who wore a traditional Kanjivaram saree.
Each one spoke about the sari she wore and the emotional value attached to it.
Music and dance in India and all over the world are the hallmark of celebrations, without which any celebration is incomplete.
Prabha Mathur, Daya Agarwal and Vandana Shukla sang ”Aaya Rituraj Rangeela Re”. Vandana Shukla enchanted the audience with the song “Sakal Ban phool rahi sarson”.
At the end of the meet, Rachna Gupta, Harshita and. ……….’s dance was a treat to the senses to the song ”Aayo re shubh din aayo re”.
In all it was an entertaining program. The event was followed by a sumptuous lunch.
