Wishtown Golf Course is our crowning glory. In this Oxygen Zone, the footfall has steadily increased. As residents, we have access to one of the best designed courses in Delhi NCR. To use this facility, we need to be familiar with the basics of Golf.
The golf course is made of several parts – essential elements that challenge a golfer’s skill and ability. It consists usually of 18 stretches of green grass that start from the ‘tee-box’, and end on a ‘Green’ with a hole.
The grass on the Green is the shortest in height. The stretches are known as ‘Fairways’, of varying lengths and shapes. The objective of the game is to hit the ball from the Tee box, through the fairway and onto the Green, where you ‘Putt’ the ball into the hole.
So, for example, the first fairway up to the green is 120 yards, the second could be 300 yards or more, the third could be 450 yards, and so on, until the 18th fairway. The goal is to have minimum shots on each fairway.
After the 18th, you count the total number of shots you hit; the winner is the golfer with the least number of shots.
While the ‘Green’ has the shortest grass, it can be of varying shape, size, contour, and speed; the fairway grass is more in height. Around it is the area of grass known as ‘Rough’ where the grass is even longer, making it difficult to hit the ball.
Each fairway may also have a small pond which acts as hazard. There are also portions of ground filled with sand. These are sand bunkers that dot the fairways or surround the Greens. Golf is played with a special type of ball, and clubs that provide varying distances when the ball is struck.
Our Wishtown Golf Course is undergoing changes that will increase the length of various holes. This new landscape is expected to be operational soon and will make it an appealing venue for national and international level competitions.
So don’t postpone anymore. It is time to pick up your Golf set, put on your Golfing shoes and tee-off in style!
