Know Your FMG – Imperial & Kalypso Court’s Electricity Management

Lights out! This is the cue which triggers off posts in Imperial & Kalypso Court (ITKT) WhatsApp groups. Everyone starts looking at other flats/ towers to find solace that there is no light
there either! If the Diesel Generator (DG) does not kick on within five minutes, the worry starts. One wonders why the Facility Management Group’s (FMG) Electrical Team is not responding.

As residents, it will be helpful to understand the electricity supply management & the continuous efforts made by them to ensure comfortable living in ITKT.

The FMG Electrical Team is headed by Gaurav Sharma, an Electrical Engineer with 20+ years’ experience in electricity supply management of hotels & residential projects. There is a 30+ members’ team for looking after the societies (ITKT, PCPH, Augusta, Town homes, Villas, plots etc.) falling in the area between Wishtown Gates 1 & 3.

The Electrical Team manages supply to societies/ flats, lights in common areas, parks, walking track, basements & monitors the elevator maintenance companies like Mitsubishi, Kone, Johnson, Syncon, etc.

A 24×7 attendant is available in all Electricity Substations of this area.

Main electricity supply to ITKT is received from Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited via 2 routes of 2 Substations. In case of a supply cut in one route, the 2nd route is used. If disruption is for more than 5 minutes, a centralized DG power backup system (near Jaypee Hospital) provides the supply.

To meet the electricity demand spike this summer, the Team has proactively taken DGs on rent.

Time gap reasons for DG supply to kick in – DG supply is activated automatically in one – half of substation panel. The other half is manually switched on to minimise power surge. Delay in manual switchovers, if any, is due to attendant’s visit to washroom & time taken to run back to panel.

In case there is a fault in Substation 1 route, DG power is looped via the second substation. This process takes 30 minutes. At times, there may be electricity disruption due to repairs in electricity shaft panels in towers.

In high rise towers, shafts have been divided into 2 to 3 Zones. So, if flats above/ below you have lights, then you are in the affected repair Zone. FMG normally informs via email if such a repair is scheduled. FMG Electrical Team, more ‘power’ to you!
