Know Thy Neighbour: Swapreena Khandelwal

A feel honoured to introduce a pleasing personality of our colony who is well known for supplying home cooked tasty food. Yes Friends! She is an ever smiling soft spoken Swapreena Khandelwal, residing in R- 6 Green Park Extension- A household name in the world of catering home cooked Indian food.

A big gathering or small gathering, a birthday party, or condolence meet, kitty party or for individuals…she caters to all. Her forte being Indian food, Indian Marwari food,Jain food and snacks. Her Dahi Bhallas, bread kachori and small samosas are a great hit amongst her clients. At the kitty party at her place we enjoyed yummy food, not to miss the Nagori Halwa. The flavour still rolls in my mouth.

Personally on one occasion I had asked to cook for a certain number of people for a condolence meet. The food was appreciated by all. She lives just one house away and  I feel so blessed that I can reach out to her anytime in need of food.

Charity always begins at home. In Swapreena’s case also it was a good Samaritan’s act that put her on the path to this flourishing business. A very interesting and compassionate story indeed! On their third floor an old couple lived.Once the wife fell sick for a longer period of time. Compassionately Swapreena sent food to the couple daily for six months. That talks a lot about the largeheartedness of Swapreena. It was on their insistence and motivation that the idea of turning this hobby into a business proposition originated.

In 2012 she introduced a mini meal consisting of a sandwich, salad and cutlet. Pamphlets were distributed but the results weren’t great. Somewhere in 2013 she got an order of 3 Indian home cooked thali. There was no stopping after that. She has come a long way from then to now. Today almost 13 years have passed and her business is flourishing.

She supplies to AIIMS, Jain food gatherings and to BSG group’s monthly meetings. All this has just spread by word of mouth. Such was the quality of her food. Her hard diligent work brought her rich dividends. One more thing I would like to mention here, her maid Rani has been constantly working with her for the past 11 years and even today works for her. She is a great asset to her. That talks a lot about Swapreena’s credibility.

In one of the Diwali mela she also organised a gol gappa stall. A graduate with two years of fashion designing, Swapreena’s life has had a master stroke in the culinary art giving people the taste of Home flavours.

I wish her all the very best in life with a great future in the field that she enjoys…Home cooked fresh tasty meal.
