Versatility is the biggest strength of our featured resident for this column this month. From the world of Science and Technology to the realms of Finance, Dr Dinesh Kumar Takyar (popularly known as Dr Kumar) has been there, done that. A resident of S Block, GK-2, for the past several decades, Dr Takyar spent his early years in Mumbai where his father was employed with STC.
After finishing his schooling from St Michael‘s Mumbai, foreign shores beckoned Dr Takyar to Hamburg, West Germany, a destination he chose to pursue his higher studies. He completed his Doctorate in Natural Sciences (Doctor rerum naturalium) from there. With a PhD degree under his belt, Dr Takyar took up a job with a well-renowned Pharmaceutical Company as Chief Quality Controller. All this While, Dr Kumar remained nostalgic for home and eventually, after spending some 20 years in Germany, he returned to India in 1986 and made GK-2 his home for the rest of his life.
He took up a job with Ranbaxy Laboratories as Head of Analytical Research where he worked for the next few years. Around that time, computers had started making its presence felt in our lives and were considered an enigma as well as a novelty. An IT enthusiast, Dr Kumar saw an opportunity to create awareness about Computer and its usage among people in a fun-filled manner. This paved the way for him to start ‘Family Computer Club‘, a Computer Learning Centre in Savitri Complex, GK-2 in the mid-1990s shortly after he hung up his boots on his checkered career with the Pharma industry.
The carefree and happy environment of the Club made it very popular among the young and old alike and people started thronging to his Centre in large numbers to acquaint themselves with the usage of computers in different fields. With the adoption of Computers as an inseparable element in our daily lives, Dr Kumar decided to shut down the Centre after having run it successfully for 15 years. Even today, his YouTube videos on MS Applications are quite popular.
Never to turn his back on any opportunity that comes his way, Dr Kumar chose to explore his interest in Wealth Management as his next vocation. Presently, he devotes a considerable amount of his time in managing his wealth and derives extreme pleasure in watching his money grow through investing on Bourses for which he possesses a consummate flair and likes to keep himself abreast with developments in the financial markets.
Dr Kumar also describes himself as a Health freak and never misses on his morning and evening walks. In fact, he has also set up a home Gym where he loves to work out. His other interests include Cricket, Reading and writing. He is planning to compile a book of short stories sometime soon.
Dr Kumar‘s wife has firmly supported him in all his endeavors while successfully pursuing her own career as the Ops and Training Head at the Delhi office of a reputed US based Publishing house, World Book Inc. The Takyars have been married for over 36 years and have a daughter who is presently interning as a teacher with Don Bosco School. Team Samvada wishes Dr Dinesh Kumar Takyar all the best for all times.
