As they say, variety is the spice of life. Using her sheer willpower, Aparna Roy has nurtured the variety of talents that she possesses to emerge as a multifaceted and dynamic individual that treats the world as her stage to showcase her creativity. Naturally gifted in more ways than one, Aparna Roy has explored her diverse interests throughout the journey of her life that has taken her all around the globe. Married to a Diplomat, Aparna Roy is well travelled and has imbibed local culture of various countries where she has stayed. She taught in various International schools abroad and served as Academic Advisor in an American school in Africa. Aparna Roy obtained her third Masters` degree in Special Need Education for differently abled children from Hong Kong University. She did her full time three years Degree course in Psychotherapy from Weltech, New Zealand and thereafter practiced there and in a few other countries.
Along with her husband, Aparna Roy also started the Shankar Art Competition abroad. Pursuing another interest, she learnt yoga at a young age from different gurus. She is currently a practicing Psychotherapist and a Yoga teacher with over 25 years of experience operating from her home in E Block, GK-2. The high point in her career of psychotherapy came when she successfully healed a patient who was suffering from acute trauma after losing her son. Aparna Roy derives immense satisfaction from the fact that this patient is now leading a healthy life and has recently sent a specially created hand-made citation on Aparna Roy as a token of her gratitude to her.
She also talks about the session on yoga that she has conducted for the police force at the CR Park Police Station in deference to a request by the SHO to destress the police personnel who work under taxing conditions. Her care for the underserved and marginalized sections of the society manifests itself into conducting teaching programs for the poor children of her locality besides also joining hands with My Angels Academy, a Delhi based NGO working in the field of imparting education to the poor and needy. In fact, her association with children dates back to the period 1998-2000 when she worked as Project Coordinator for Health & Sanitation with UNICEF during which she had 80 schools under her charge. She is currently working on getting children of construction workers educated in proper schools.
She loves to meditate at Brahma kumaris and learns Indian Classical Music from Centre of Music, CR Park. Aparna Roy has learnt local art forms from the various countries where she stayed. This includes the highly intricate art forms of Palekh and Fidoskina from Russia. She is also a gifted Madhubani painter. It is a sheer delight to see canvasses of different art forms adorning the walls of her home and artefacts created by her on display in her living room. An avid environmentalist, Aparna Roy practices home de-composting of kitchen waste and distributes the resultant manure to the parks near her home. Not just this, she is also deft at creating floras and saplings from seeds at her home which she plants in the Sehgal Market Park close to her home. In whatever little spare time that she gets, Aparna Roy conducts Bio Enzyme classes in her home. She holds a Diploma in Naturopathy that helps her tremendously in this effort.
A passionate animal lover, Aparna Roy regularly feeds stray dogs in her street and refutes the perception about dogs being hostile creatures. She was moved by an incident that occurred down south two years ago when a pregnant elephant died after being fed firecracker filled pineapple by some miscreants. This led her to conduct sensitization programs towards animals for people from all walks of life. This included holding a painting competition with the subject `I love n care for animals` for children and creating a graffiti wall for painting animal images near Sehgal Market I by adults. Being a member of Lioness Club South District holding the title of Golden Lioness, she helps Blind Schools, Gaushalas and NGOs engaged in philanthropic causes.
Aparna Roy hails from a highly learned Bengali family. Her initial education included graduation in Mathematics from Delhi University. Her father was a Class I Government Officer and a Gold Medalist from Calcutta University. She has one daughter who is a banker settled in New Zealand. Aparna Roy`s motto in life is to do one good act every day. We, at Samvada, extend our good wishes to her for all times.
