Acacophony of horns, some of them blaring loud, and traffic jams are the norm on the narrow Central Avenue of South City 1 and the Service Lane near Huda City Centre during drop-off and pick up times of the three schools that adorn our colony. This is mostly accompanied by kisses and misses, fender benders, gaali galoch and the result is an extremely displeased set residents of not just the neighbouring blocks but entire South City.
All nooks and crannies within half a kilometre of the three schools are occupied for about half an hour and it is almost impossible for users to pass through the area. Living close to a school is a source of constant stress for most because of all this half an hour of noise and traffic twice a day.
RWA and residents have lodged multiple complaints to the city administration and the police, but nothing has been done about it. “Why do they not ask the schools to move from here?” a resident inquired from SCRWA team. The only answer is that all private schools have been established by obtaining a no objection certificate (NOC) from the concerned authorities.
Traffic congestion issues are the responsibility of the district administration and the police. SCRWA has approached the authorities.
While conceding that due to the influx of vehicles at the time of opening and closing, traffic flow was a problem, Commissioner Police and DCP Traffic said that they are planning for additional personnel to be deployed in the areas where there are educational institutions in the morning and afternoon.
To be honest, such plans just appear to be an attempt by the authorities to kick the can down the road. SCRWA team requests all residents to email practical solutions and suggestions regarding this to SCRWA team at scrwa.gurgaon@gmail.com. All useful suggestions will be mentioned in the next edition and discussed with authorities.
