While most people worship Goddess Lakshmi on Diwali, people in West Bengal, Orissa, and Assam worship Goddess Kali on the new moon. On October 24, Kali Puja was organised at Kalibari Mandir, and all rituals and puja were performed as per Bengali Hindu tradition. Goddess Kali is worshipped by presenting red kumkum, akshat, red hibiscus flowers, and red clothes, or chunari. Three garlands made of fresh flowers, Bilva leaves, Tulsi leaves, and Naivedhya, e.g., sweets, fruits, sugarcane, Lava (parched rice), Durva grass, etc., are included in the puja. Sweets made from halwa or milk are served. During the day, there were over 3000 visitors, while some 300 people were present when Bhog was distributed at around 2.30 AM (early morning).
Jagaddhatri Devi Puja was performed on Wednesday, November 2, 2022, at Kalibari Mandir. The puja, which started at 7.30 in the morning, lasted till noon. Evening aarti was held in the evening. Jagaddhatri Devi is considered to be a form of Maa Durga. It is believed that worshipping her destroys man’s ego. The Goddess blesses only those who have no ego. In West Bengal, Jagaddhatri Devi is worshipped with great enthusiasm for three days. Prasad was distributed among all the people in the afternoon.
