Spotlight on “behind the scenes”
Durga Puja is a time when the community comes together. The fact that it’s held in Sector 50 is a matter of pride not only for the Bengali community but for everyone who gets a taste of this carnival like celebration that has spiritual, cultural, and intellectual flavors.
Last week met Tanushree Adhikary (Block 13, KD) on late-night walk inside our campus. An active participant in Durga Puja, she exclaimed, “Oh, days before Durga Puja are feverishly hectic”. She shared, “I always wish I had more than 24 hours because I love putting all my energy into the preparations for the dance and music performances, though I am a trained music teacher and music is my forte. For me, it’s my Pushpanjali to Maa Durga; and I seek Her blessings for myself and all my students, who also practice with great enthusiasm and consistency.” Tanushree has been a part of Saptarshi Sanga since 2017, and there has been no turning back since. She has proudly worn many hats, both on and off stage.
This year, Tanushree will showcase her group’s talents through “Colours of Yaman.” The performance will include songs based on Raag Yaman, as well as a few songs by Tagore, Nazrul, contemporary Bengali songs, and some classical renditions. The practice started two months ago and has become almost daily as the event approaches. All in all, it promises to be an amazing musical potpourri.
One can see the community bonding, during the Navratra celebration days with people dressed in their finest and soaking in the spirit of Durga Pooja. Additionally, I have noticed that sustainability is becoming a topic of consideration with changing times. May we continue to be blessed by Maa Durga!
