Jyotika Mehta – in Conversation with a Humble, Compassionate and Kind Hearted Person- Mrs Beenu Kapur- Resident of Saomi Nagar

Beenu was born in Delhi in a Punjabi family residing in Golf Links. She studied in a popular Girls School “Mater Dei” in Delhi. While she was pursuing her graduation from Jesus and Mary College, she got married in a Satsangi family. She undertook various voluntary activities especially at Lajpat Bhawan. She would collect donations to help the needy. She became a bridge between the needy and the resources they needed. She started collecting and donating to “Goonj” also. Serving and helping the underprivileged children with books and clothes became a passion with her. I was always intrigued by her personality and therefore dived into a conversation with her to find out what makes her tick.

Q 1. What drove you towards the voluntary social work that you do?

Ans. When I got married, I was a novice to Satsangi culture and teachings. The divine grace of Param Guru Huzur Dr. M.B. Lal Sahab inspired me to join the  Soami Nagar Pre-Primary School and that was the turning point in my life.Till then, I lived a very casual life of a homemaker but when I got introduced to Dayalbagh and the services there, it instilled a disciplinarian culture in me. My first lesson of punctuality was taught to me by a senior teacher, who would bolt the doors of the classroom if I was late. I keep this learning very close to my heart till date.

Q2. Tell me more about your journey?

Ans. I always had the fire in my belly to give back something to the Society I live in. I never shied away from hard work. One day I was asked if I would join “Soami Nagar Model School” as a volunteer. This gave me immense joy and motivation to pursue academics further. I decided to pursue B.Ed. along with teaching and also along with my duties and responsibilities as a homemaker. I feel one doesn’t ever stop learning. The management of the Society of the School sponsored a course on “Early Childhood Education” run by The State Council of Educational Research and Training(SCERT). Along with my teaching  at Soami Nagar Model School  as an assistant teacher, then class teacher I did another course-  OACO (Office Administration and Computer Operator) in DEI distance education Center and PGDT (Post Graduate Diploma in Theology) from DEI.

Q3. How do you cope the social service along with your personal duties?

Ans. I do not expect anything in return from whatever I do. My aim is to do work selflessly and relentlessly. I enjoy what I do and therefore I never feel exhausted or tired of it. I do not feel any kind of discomfort and I am always ready to face any kind of challenges that may come my way.

She was offered the post of the Principal which was a surprise to her and which she graciously accepted. As times are changing, the challenges are increasing manifold and children of today have to be more agile, alert and conscious citizens of tomorrow. Most Revered Chairman ACE, Dayalbagh Educational Institutions, Prof. Prem Saran Satsangi feels the present lot of students to become the future Super Human Kind or Super Spirituals of the Society. To nurture them, baby steps were taken like introducing agraecology, yoga, meditation and teaching  mindfulness for an overall holistic development of each child to enable them to become  good citizens of their motherland.

Q4. How do you see yourself growing as an individual? Or do you feel been there, done that?

Ans. As I look back almost three decades back, nothing but the Grace and Mercy of the divine has helped me charter such a beautiful journey of my life. I have lived a life of dignity, commitment and self-satisfaction. The Soami Nagar Model School will be completing and celebrating its 50 years this year and being a part of its growth, has helped me grow too as a better human being. The time spent here gave me ample opportunity to give back to the society unconditionally. My journey with my family, school, neighbours and acquaintances has been very fulfilling and nourishing.

We are very privileged to have such a noble soul in our colony who has given her time and energy in shaping young minds to be responsible citizens.

Indeed she is an unsung hero who is the backbone of the Soami Nagar Model School and we are very thankful to her for carrying out the noble work.
