Many might say that it is too hasty to assume that ‘the light at the end of the tunnel’ is visible even after the new CLAT case hearing date of April 7, considering the developments surrounding the CLAT case and how they have and may continue to be unfortunately sidelined and postponed. As a person who has now given the exam twice, seeing a fiasco take place each time definitely isn’t heartening when it comes to how the exam is being conducted thus.
Any student who aims to pursue law is always directed to CLAT, the most primary law entrance exam in India. So, one would think that the premier law entrance exam of India would ensure that it wouldn’t be rife with errors and victim to mismanagement. However, that is what I have seen time and again and it is not a hope-invoking sight to see. With reference to CLAT 2025, test takers who gave the exam for the first time are now facing what I believe is undue adversity.
On Dec 20, the Delhi High Court had directed the Consortium to revise results due to the presence of blatant errors. The Consortium proceeded to take matters to the Supreme Court, where it was directed to go back to the Delhi High Court again for resolution of the case, officially transferring all the cases in a consolidated manner.
After aspirants across the country gave the exam on December 1, the contestation of the results released on December 7 continues to be postponed to no end.
The case has since been pending and hearing after hearing has been postponed, with the latest update suggesting a potential hearing on April 7-8.
This entire ordeal is one that has effectively had the effect of a pause button on every person who gave the exam, as they remain uncertain and wait indefinitely. For many, any change in the results would alter their chances significantly which is why the gravity of the wait until this case is resolved is palpable, to say the least.
Any attempt to find relief for students inevitably leads to hunting for information as to the updates for the hearing, which are not only few and far in between but also far from common knowledge, leaving many in the dark, questioning and meandering.
As law aspirants hold their breath, at the mercy of whatever this case entails, perhaps the only silver lining is that aspirants now know the reality on a personal level, as to the state of affairs that can result from our justice delivery system.
