Join Us in Our Plantation Drive This Rainy Season

“Rise against rising temperatures.” Climate change and global warming are indeed having a profound impact on our planet, and the effects are being felt worldwide by everyone and every species of the earth. Some of the harsh effects of climate change we are facing right now are rising global temperatures. According to the scientist, the average global temperature has been rising by about 1 degree Celsius since late 1800, leading to more frequent and severe heat waves. Climate change not only increases temperatures, but more frequent and intense natural disasters like hurricanes, wildfires, floods, and landslides are very common these days. Melting of glaciers and rising of sea level so fast to rise, leading to coastal erosion flooding and salt intrusion into the freshwater resources. Changes in precipitation patterns result in low productivity, loss of biodiversity, and the extinction of many plants and animals, causing disturbance in the food chain and ultimately causing ecological imbalance. All these phenomena have negative impacts on human health. Due to urbanization and land use changes, we have created heat-absorbing surfaces (dark-colored roofs and buildings), a lack of green spaces and vegetation, vehicle emissions, industrial activities, high energy consumption, and population density. All these have created “Urban Heat Islands.” These urban heat islands are the areas where the top environment absorbs and retains heat, leading to a higher temperature than surrounding rural areas. This phenomenon has had consequences for human health, energy consumption, and the environment. As we know, Noida is the fastest-developing city, and we can see this effect increasing tremendously in recent years. Various organizations are working to increase the green cover of the city. The Noida authority, in its commitment to environmental sustainability, organizes various tree plantation drives and awareness programs from time to time. The authority has taken several initiatives to protect the environment, like dust-free zones, afforestation drives, door-to-door e-waste collections, etc. On the occasion of this World Environment Day, i.e., celebrated on June 5, the Authority organized an awareness event in Meghdutam Park. The event aimed to promote environmental consciousness and encourage citizens to take action towards protecting the planet. The authority also starts a tree plantation drive every year in the month of July, as this weather is suitable for sapling growth. By planting trees, we are not only contributing to a greener environment but also helping to combat climate change, support local wildlife, reduce the “Urban Heat Island effect, and create a healthier community.
