It’s  “Shock”ing

Electricity is all fun and games when we use it to run our air conditioners, televisions, refrigerators etc but any kind of exposure to electric current can prove to be fatal.

Recently there was a case in Delhi where a young woman lost her life when she accidently came in contact with a wet electric pole. A similar incident happened on the same day when a child lost his life after accidently touching exposed electrical wiring in a park. Similar cases have been reported in the previous years also.

In our sector also, if you were to walk around you will notice one thing in common all over the sector. There are electricity boxes lying open and exposed wiring throughout the sector. In every lane, corner and even in parks the situation is the same and dangerously so.

Boxes for the street light control switches mounted on poles can be seen without covers and those which do have covers also can be seen lying open with wires carrying high voltage hanging out. It’s appalling to see the callousness of the electricity department employees.  Also the central control boxes or distribution boxes are lying open throughout the sector with wires carelessly hanging out and joined together without any insulation whatsoever. Even the parks are not safe. The control boxes used for operating the tube wells are almost always open. Also the wires that are used for connecting the tube well with the control box just runs across the walk-way with the joints open and live wire exposed. At many places cables are coming out of the ground with exposed wires that are used to control watering equipment. When the electricity department officials were confronted on this issue they passed the buck to the horticulture department and vice versa. Also many times we can see the gates of the enclosures that house the transformers open for anybody to walk in and put his life in danger. Even various transformers across the sector have open wires hanging down with shoddy application of insulation tape.

These electrical hazards can prove to be very dangerous if not dealt with quickly. It’s only a matter of time before a mishap takes place. The ones in the park are the most dangerous as children play near them and someday some kid out of curiosity might approach the open wires or may accidently touch the exposed wires. Even animals may accidently come in contact with these wires and can lose their lives. The Noida authority and district administration should take cognizance of this issue at the earliest and take to task whichever department is responsible for this dangerous situation.
