The anticipation for the ICC World Cup final between India and Australia reached a fever pitch and the atmosphere is heightened when our club decides to broad cast the match on big LED screens at three venues in the Club. On 19th, the whole of India had come to a standstill at 12 and all eyes were fixated on TV screens. Panchshila Club made excellent arrangements for the live telecast of India-Australia match at the Amphora Bar, Multipurpose Hall and the East Lawns. The members and cricket enthusiasts gathered in large number at the venues. The bar echoed with cheers and banter of cricket passionate fans. Some had donned blue jerseys to show their allegiance. Delicious food and choice of drinks was available at all venues. India having won all 9 matches in the run-up were obviously the favourite but were not meant to be on THE Day. Australia played better than us and clinched the title. It was an emotional roller coaster ride where at one time Australia were wobbling at 47-3, there was jubilation but Head’s 95 ball century took them closer to the target of 241. The crowds fell silent. Such is this sport. As Pat Cummins said,” We saved our best for the last”. And they did. Its Ok.. the best team won but the boys will bounce back.
