Is Tradition an Enemy of Progress?

Sometimes two words can express a chasm, one that is unbridgeable … tradition and progress are two such words.  One that intends to preserve and hold and other that wishes to break free.

Traditionalists are conservative unlike the ever-changing progressives.

  1. The conventional 5 days cricket was the gold standard of batting technique. Everything changed, first with onset of one day cricket and thereafter its smaller version 20 over matches. The world was changing and getting busier. The cricket had to rediscover itself to these changing realities.

2.  Many of us considered the digital transactions as a utopia. The progress in the field proved a game changer..India notched a place of reckoning in  world of financial transactions.

3. However, there is an area where I back the tradition..the conservation of ecology and culture. The destruction of forest and habitats can endanger the very survival of humans.

4. The rise of monoculture and loss of diversity of traditions and culture can bring rootlessness and depression in communities.

5. The loss of biologic diversity is robbing us of the colours of life. Imagine a world without the birds and animals!

Thus, tradition and progress must need not be the opposing poles. We must consciously strike a balance and not succumb to mindless race of progress at the cost of everything else.
