Is Green Park Heading Towards A Slum

We the citizens of Delhi are rapidly walking towards slums instead of taking pride in our areas where we live. The PM of our country has tried to sweep places to inspire people and set an example of cleanliness. Unfortunately we have failed to come up to any standard.

Let us start with foot over bridges where crores of rupees have been spent to facilitate crossing of heavy traffic areas by pedestrians, senior citizens, children etc. We were very happy with the introduction of all such new schemes. On the main Mehrauli road from IIT to AIIMS four or 5 such structures are there. Instead of using them as bridges they have become dwelling places for juggi population who indulge in  all kinds of anti-social activities from drugs, drinking, gambling etc. All this is happening in front of all disciplinary authorities who work with closed eyes. Under IIT Bridge there are about 40 to 50 people living along the traffic light area and pavements on the main road.

Green Park foot over bridge, A block plays a very important role for all the pedestrians who are using it on a daily basis. Unfortunately it started as a night shift for homeless people. Slowly I saw a couple of weeks ago night shift became a day shift. Also on the main road on the pavement people sunbathe on rags and use the pavements as a toilet too. They were fiddling with the lift so as a result the lift structure has since been removed.

May I request the residents and RWA of Green Park to keep a strict vizil so that the problem is nipped in the bud. Dwellers under the IIT Bridge do not allow to take a picture as happened with me when we were trying to take a photo. They were agitated and started getting together when my driver calmed them down by telling them that they were counting the heads for distribution of blankets.

Let us not have a Colony within a Colony – Green Park and hutment Green Park. As it is there is a rise in thefts. It started with small parts of scooters and cars missing and suddenly the cars parked in front of the houses and robbery at locked houses took a lead within a 10 to 15 day period.

Let us all join together and help to nip the problem as soon as they are detected. Let our resolution to make Green Park a Model Colony remain active and so also our determination to be the best.
