Breathe In Relaxation, Breathe Out Stress
India, the birthplace of yoga, shared its timeless gift with the world once again on this International Yoga Day (IYD). At Silver Oaks, ‘Yoga Mahotsav’ was organised for the very first time on the occasion of IYD. Residents united on June 21st to honour this ancient practice right in front of their community center, embracing wellness under the open sky. The weather was perfect for outdoor yoga – the air was fresh, cool, and totally zen! The session was led by Yoga Guru Shri Akhil Sachan from ‘Akhilm Yoga Point’, and kicked off at 6am. As they say, yoga is for everybody, this celebration certainly proved that age is just a number on the yoga mat. The turnout was impressive, with a good mix of youthful energy and many spirited senior residents (some over 80 years young), who showed up eager and ready to stretch and flex. The goal was to promote yoga and inspire people to embrace it as a ‘Way Of Life’.
Arrangements were thoughtfully made for everyone: many people used yoga mats for their practice, while chairs and benches were also available for those unable to sit on the floor. The session catered to people of all ages and abilities, featuring easy beginner-level asanas, pranayama, and meditation. As everybody moved through the poses, a collective sense of peace descended upon the whole group, and the stress of daily life seemed to melt away. After the final breaths and stretches, smiles blossomed upon everybody’s refreshed faces and all felt rejuvenated, relaxed, and perhaps a little more aware of muscles they never knew existed in their bodies. It was a delightful hour-long session, followed by tea and other refreshments. The event had two sponsor partners – ‘AGEasy by Antara’ a holistic wellness brand for senior care, and ‘Kisaan Se’ which provided refreshing cold-pressed juices for everyone to enjoy.
The COVID-19 pandemic prompted each of us to reflect on life’s true purpose, and in its aftermath, many people made changes to their lifestyles, whether consciously or unconsciously. There is no better way to embrace this change in our lives than by integrating yoga into our daily routine. Yoga not only enhances fitness and flexibility but also clears our minds and reduces the stress that comes with our fast-paced lives. Here’s hoping everyone carries the benefits of this Yoga Day experience into their everyday lives.
