The RWA of Sector 39 celebrated the International Women’s Day on March 6, 2023 during evening hours at D block park of the sector. More than 300 people gathered and participated in the event.
The chief guest on the occasion was Dr. Meenu Walia, professor and head of department at a leading hospital and cancer institute and also a resident of sector 39. Dr. Meenu Walia has been honoured with an award by the Uttarakhand Government for cancer awareness and also the Shyam Bharadwaj Cancer Awareness Award 2022-23. She spoke about the importance of women’s health and wellness. She also mentioned how she came to the sector in the year 1998 and how it has come a long way since then. She appreciated the work done by the current RWA and how there is a sea change in the sector overall.
The RWA honoured many women of the sector for their contribution in various fields. One of them was Rakhi Jha, an entrepreneur, environmentalist and social worker. She has received an award from Smriti Irani, the Minister for Woman and Child Development, for improving the lives of underprivileged women by imparting technical education to them thereby boosting their confidence and making them financially independent. Rakhi Jha has also worked towards the environment and making our surroundings look beautiful, clean ,green and healthy. The RWA also felicitated Neelam Varshney, Manju Pahwa, Savita Fogat, Sheela Agarwal, Vandana Khanna for beautifying the sector and organising Shiv Barat in such a way that maximum residents were able to participate and take blessings of the almighty .Gunjan Bhatia was recognised for her contribution towards the social and cultural activities of the sector. Divya Bhasin, Neera Verma and Gunjan Sharma were honoured for their compassion and care towards dogs in an excellent way that serves as a motivation to other animal lovers. Many other women entrepreneurs were also honoured. The whole program was sponsored by Rakhi Jha and the gifts for all participants were given by a foundation for social causes. The RWA president, Ashok Khanna and the general Secretary T.S Arora thanked the RWA team members, the chief guest Dr Meenu Walia, Rakhi Jha, sponsors and all the residents for making the programme a success.
The programme ended on a joyful note with the very one enjoying mouth watering snacks consisting of Gujiyas, matti and thandai
