International Women’s Day is celebrated to spread the message of gender equality to create a better society free of gender bias. We as a society has become more aware of women parity and equal opportunities for women in society and governance irrespective of caste and creed.
March 8 was designated as International Women’s Day by the United Nations in 1975. However, it was first celebrated on March 19, 1911, in the United States and several European countries.
The theme for this year’s women’s day is “Inspire Inclusion “which truly represents the spirit of the day.
On March 2, Women’s Day celebration was organized by a Ladies Club at Indira Gandhi auditorium with a performance of Nritya Natika titled “Tejaswini “ written and directed by Abha Atray which depicted role of women from ancient India to the modern India .
Five under privileged women were recognised and felicitated for their courage and women power.
Another function was organised for underprivileged women at sector 122 Janta Colony with a health talk by yoga specialist and distribution of sanitary pads and masks to make women aware of personal hygiene and health.
On March 3, an event was organised by an NGO where around 1000 women participated for a cultural programme and a talk on environment cleanliness along with Nukkad natak to articulate the subject of women power. Few social workers were recognised for their exemplary contributions to their field of work.
In a true sense every day should be celebrated as women’s day and stop atrocities against them and bring the underprivileged women in main stream.
