Installation Of Water Meters By Noida Authority Is A Welcome Step

It is understood that Noida Authority has decided to install smart water meters in all the Group Housing Societies, Flats and independent Houses. An agency has been engaged to install water meters in Noida which is to be completed within the stipulated time period. The basic idea behind this exercise is to curb misuse and wastage of water and make people pay as per their usage.

Before introducing Ganga Water supply, Noida residents were being supplied underground water which had very high TDS. Now with mixing of Ganga water supply the water has become usable for domestic purposes. Since Ganga water supply is also limited, it becomes pertinent to control the misuse and wastage of water so as to cater to the needs of more residents. At present the water charges are being collected from the residents on basis of size of plots irrespective of their usage. Now with the installation of water meters, the wastage and misuse could be controlled and the Authority will be able to charge the residents as per its usage. We all are ware that every drop of water is precious and to save the mother earth water conservation is very essential. So we need to think seriously in this direction and use water more wisely and try to stop its misuse and wastage.

In order to maintain an equitable water pressure for every house hold, it is necessary to stop the usage of online water booster pumps presently being used by residents in indiscreet manner which not only reduces the water pressure in other houses but these also activate the residual impurities in the supply lines which mixes with the fresh supply and makes it dirty. To get rid of this problem, the Noida Authority should put a total ban on the installation of online water booster pumps like done in Delhi and other states. The right way to boost water to rooftop storage tanks is that it should first be collected in ground or underground water tank and then be pumped to rooftop storage tanks. I am sure the readers will agree to my suggestions.

Samvada Adds: The chill of the cold weather during last few months did not dampen the spirits of those who waste water blatantly.  “Walk out in the morning, especially between 7 am and 9 am, and you will witness water being liberally wasted in a lot of homes. There are drivers washing cars and tyres as if the vehicle has to move on a clean marble surface. There are maids washing the portico and driveways with a hose pipe, directing the flow at even the minutest speck of dirt, holding the running water till the dirt is driven away”. These are the words of a concerned resident. She observed water coming from a pipe and flowing onto the road and drains. On further investigation, she realized that a driver who had been washing the car left it when his phone rang. Giving the benefit of a doubt, she pointed out the wastage of water to the driver. His facial expression and gesture of hand conveyed that he was well aware of the flowing water and he continued the conversation on the phone at a leisurely pace.

With installation of water meter let us hope that things will change.
