This article is based on true facts of the incidents faced by the residents of GK-2 whose identities have been withheld on request.
Case I: In October 2021 this household received a water bill of 1,62,000 for a 3 member family .They reported the matter and requested someone to check their meter as the bill was far too high. From October 2021 to August 2022, no one came from Delhi Jal Board to check that meter. A reminder was sent in Aug 2022 whereupon an official came to check the meter and demanded Rs.5000, as shared by the resident, for fixing the meter. The residents however decided to get the meter repaired on their own and got a record entry made for the same. The next bill was for Rs.80,000 which too was high. This problem stands unresolved till date.
Case 2: Another resident of the colony received a bill of over Rs.3.5 lakhs. On approaching the authorities, the bill amount was reduced to Rs.1.5 lakhs which again was very high. The water meter was eventually replaced but this household has stopped receiving any bills ever since then.
This is just the tip of the iceberg as this malaise seems to run far too deep with many more residents aggrieved on this count. It is time the Department takes these complaints seriously and promptly acts upon them by carrying out a comprehensive check of the affected water meters.
