Marking 78 years of freedom from colonial rule, the residents of Apex Athena came together on 15th August 2024 to celebrate Independence Day with great enthusiasm and pride. The event was organized through the collective efforts of dedicated volunteers from the society, symbolizing its unity, progress, and enduring spirit.
This year, the celebrations were graced by Manju Saxena, retired lecturer of vocal music from St. Thomas Girls Inter College, Meerut, as the Chief Guest. Mrs. Saxena has dedicated over 43 years to the field of music, specializing in classical, non-classical, ghazals, bhajans, and folk songs. A cancer survivor for 22 years, she is an inspiring figure, having overcome her battle with cancer following surgery in 2002 at Rajeev Gandhi Cancer Hospital, Delhi. Post-recovery, she has served as a motivational figure, visiting hospitals to provide hope to cancer patients. Mrs. Saxena, along with her husband Mohan Swarup Saxena, a retired Income Tax Officer and advocate in taxation, has been residing in Noida for the past three years, enjoying retired life among friends at Athena.
During her heartfelt speech, Mrs. Saxena shared her journey as a cancer survivor, emphasizing the importance of early detection and encouraging others not to fear the disease. Her story served as a motivation to many, instilling hope that life after cancer can be normal and fulfilling.
The celebration continued with a delightful surprise from Mrs. Manjeet, who baked a stunning tri-color cake for the event. She also made cupcakes for the participating children, adding a sweet and festive touch to the occasion, which was appreciated by all.
Following the flag unfurling, children of the society took to the stage, captivating the audience with their patriotic performances of dance, music, and speeches, showcasing the rich diversity of India’s cultural heritage. A game of musical chairs was also organised for the girls and ladies. After that, refreshments were served for everyone, which was organised by the Athena Cultural Committee.
As the event ended, Mrs. Saxena and her husband expressed their heartfelt thanks to all AWS members for their warm and affectionate regard on this special occasion. The 78th Independence Day celebration at Apex Athena not only marked the freedom of the nation but also served as a reminder of resilience, unity, and the power of community.
