In and Around 7X Sectors is a Cause of Concern

Recently two cases of chain snatchings were reported from the 7x sectors. One incident happened in front of Hyde Park society and the second one took place in front of Grah Pravesh society. In
both the cases the culprits were on bikes and zoomed away before anyone could make out what was happening. In light of these new incidents and the ones that have taken place in the past months, residents have had to live in a constant fear of any mishap that might take place at any time given the deteriorating security and law and order situation of the sector. Some time back a resident had a terrifying experience when some armed robbers tried to rob him off his valuables at gunpoint. The ladies had stopped going for evening strolls outside the society premises and young girls stopped stepping out to play. Many incidents of carjacking have also been reported from in and around the sector. The residents say that many complaints have been lodged with the police and many residents have even met senior police officials but the situation is going from bad to worse and with the festive season going on with Durha Puja, Dussehra and Diwali these incidents are a cause of concern for everyone. Ladies are now afraid to step out of their houses on foot wearing even the tiniest piece of jewelry. They say that their trips to the puja pandals and nearby venues have drastically gone down. Some time back a police chowki was also set up across Mahagun Society in sector 78 but that also has not been of much help in curbing these incidents.
While these incidents of crime are a cause of concern there are certain ways in which we can try and mitigate such incidents. A neighbourhood watch can also be worked out so that residents of a particular area or society can keep an eye out for suspicious people and activities around them. Also in case of any doubt or any mishap it is important to relay real time information to others in the quickest manner so as to avoid any incident. Like in the case of the chain snatching outside Grah Pravesh society the bike number of the assailants was recorded by a few residents and this was quickly relayed to others via social media and messages so that others could stay vigil.
Also the local police must conduct regular meetings with the residents to sensitize them about ways to stay safe and also encourage them to report suspicious activities. Verification of all personnel regularly entering the premises like household employees and those outside like street hawkers etc by local police should be a must. The AOAs of societies should also exert some pressure on the Police for rounding up known miscreants and questioning them about the spate of snatching cases. Also the residents and AOAs can request the police to increase the patrolling in the area especially till the festive season is going on
