Cleaning our spaces can have a magical impact on us and our loved ones, but it is equally important to dispose of waste appropriately to ensure the impact is positive for the environment.
Waste segregation at source is an amazing power we hold as citizens to transform the world into a better place. Just a thoughtful and judicious approach to segregating our domestic waste can pave the way for a cleaner environment.
We, as residents of Suncity, have been segregating waste into two categories: wet/organic/kitchen waste and dry waste. This is a great initiative, as by continuing to do so, we reduce the amount of waste going to landfills, and much of this waste can be recycled.
In due course, SRWA is looking forward to collecting hazardous waste separately. Hazardous waste, such as discarded paint drums, pesticide cans, compact fluorescent lightbulbs, tube lights, expired medicines, broken mercury thermometers, used batteries, used needles and syringes, and contaminated gauze, etc., generated at the household level, can be life-threatening to those who handle it.
Proper segregation of household hazardous waste can reduce health hazards and adverse impacts on the environment.
