The cars from the Def col residents were not enough to add many more from the nearby colonies are also getting parked in the colony to create more and more issues for the residents. The Defence colony has grown manifolds in terms of the dwelling units in the last 2-3 decades. The new population came with more vehicles per house as most of the new residents are having more than 2-3 cars per floor. We have more than 500 commercial offices also add more than 2000 cars per day which are seen parked all over the colony. The nearby colonies like Kotla, Sewa Nagar, Lajpat Nagar and Andrews Ganj are also using Def col as “Free parking area”. Some even park their cars for day, week or even months. The B block and all peripheral locations like D block petrol pump, entire Central Nallah stretches, near all parks you can find cars parked permanently.
The main reasons for these illegally parked cars are as follows:
• There is no one to question if you park cars in the colony for many days. Some cars are even covered by these outsiders to keep them safe. As there are more than 5000 cars parked by the residents and outsiders on the roads, Defence colony is most famous for car thefts every month
• There are no car labels given to the residents who have no choice but to be at the mercy of the car thieves who keep stealing these cars as per their will and fancy. The round about Gumbad parking is full 24/7 as the Kotla persons have taken monthly membership for car parking in Defence colony. The DCWA office is also in Gumbad but they are also helpless due to the parking contractor.
• Def col is the most porous colony during the day when anyone can come and park or take the car as per the requirement.
How to resolve this illegal parking issue to keep our colony safer:
* Simplest way is to make Def col fully gated colony with manned gate to question anyone entering or exiting the colony
* Issue car stickers to the residents to use them effectively to enter the colony; for guest and visitors a guest sticker or token can be issues by the security guard and these cars to be parked at few designated places only
* Any car parked by outsiders must be towed away with the help of the traffic police; needs to be coordinated to get it done regularly.
Defence colony is only one square kilometer colony which can easily be managed by the RWA with the support of the residents and concerned authorities to make it a safer place.
