Last month the whole media was abuzz with news about many tragic deaths due to drowning & electrocution. Protests, rallies, press conferences, blaming each other were on. There was a hue & cry everywhere.
As usual, the whole thing will die down after a few days but the court cases will continue for many many years. Nobody can fathom the grief of parents & siblings, except that various govt. departments will announce compensation. Nobody knows when the amount will reach the beneficiaries. Many innocents will suffer for years without any of their fault.
The problem with our present system of governance is that no one takes preventive measures. In spite of the fact that many good Smartians will report & warn the various authorities & residents about the impending dangers due to the illegal acts of a few, but no one pays heed.
A few such grave instances have been reported by our RWA to various authorities over the last one year but no action. The residents & builders are also too greedy & are not ready to listen.
Well, we are talking about the illegal extensions on the rear side of new buildings, with stilt parking etc. Why such extensions should be constructed by the builders & owners ???? Sheer greed to capture each extra foot of prime space!
After all, we the older generation have seen the bungalow type houses in South Delhi, when it was mandatory to have a set off in the front & rear of building & when lawns were there in front of each house with at least one or two trees.
Why this mad rush for covering each & every sq. Inch of space without bothering to ensure proper safety?? Huge land prices!!!
These illegal extensions have two major drawbacks; 1. These are being constructed too close to the electrical live wires, running in front or rear of the buildings. These extensions carry huge number of split aircon units. God forbid, if an electrical short circuit happens, these units would explode like bombs.
2. In case of an emergency or fire. These iron grills would be like death traps with no space to escape. MCD & other authorities are not bothered in spite of complaints by RWA. They might wake up only when some major accident happens. Primarily, the blame lies with the owners, buyer & builders, who are spending crores without bothering about the safety of occupants. Why, what for???
Please wake up, do not be greedy. Life is precious. Take care.
