Ila Sharma Ji Shares Summer Vegetable Care And Upkeep with AIKGA Unit 42

Every kitchen garden and plant lover is well versed in Ila Ji’s name and her expertise in the field.

She was the guest speaker at Promila Puri’s better known as Poma ji residence in Sushant Lok 1.

Poma ji very graciously opens her heart and house for the monthly meetings. She herself is the epitome of experience.

Ila ji needs no introduction, as words fall short and the list is long for all that she has achieved in the last four decades.

The topic for the month was Care for Summer Vegetables. Ila ji very graciously explained the process of preparing the soil after uprooting the winter vegetation. She explained the timeline of sowing, feeding the saplings, the eco-friendly fertilizers and their usage, and maintaining moisture in the soil. The importance of mulching and placement of pots and using grow bags. She spoke about the diseases and how they can be controlled and has a pest-free kitchen garden.

Members were eager to note points and had queries about their experience and journey in maintaining the plants, all were answered patiently and in the process, everyone learnt much more. One and a half hours just flew by.

Sujata and Anita made important announcements regarding the Fruit, Vegetable & Flowers Show to be held in Gulmohar Club Lawns, New Delhi on 8th & 9th March from 10 am to 6.30 pm.  They also shared a detailed report on the funds collected by the unit for the Show and for the Unit’s stall.  Request for unused new items which could be put up on sale for a Garage Sale was put forward.  Rina gave the vote of thanks.

The meeting ended with hot tea & biscuits. Sweet saffron rice prepared by Amarjeet ji was enjoyed by all. Poma ji had made arrangements with a nursery, which brought summer vegetables saplings and sold them at market price.Everyone was charged up after listening to Ila ji and then the saplings readily available made it easier. The other booty was that Poma ji shared her fruits, vegetables, saplings, and seeds plants with everyone, hardly one goes empty- handed from her house.
