I moved from Delhi to Australia about nine years ago, and one of the first differences I noticed was the palpable difference in the air quality there. People usually know what the air quality is like in their homes, and after the pandemic, it became clear that without proper ventilation, the air inside can be worse than it is outside. Unlike in Delhi, where we typically use portable air purifiers, maintaining good ventilation is the norm in Australia.
I have come for a visit to India after more than seven years and find that Air quality remains a serious problem, and many people, including some of my friends and relatives, have started installing air purifiers in their homes. These devices do help to absorb dust and pollutants, but they cannot address the core issue—pollution inside the home often remains because the air isn’t being refreshed properly. To truly improve indoor air quality and create a healthy living environment, it’s necessary to ensure a constant flow of fresh air.
I was happy to see that my parents in Delhi this year, finally installed air exchangers—ventilation systems with filtration functions. These devices not only clean the air but also circulate it regularly. Thanks to the air exchangers, our home now always has fresh, clean air, and, most importantly, there are no lingering pollutants in the room. Unlike regular air purifiers, air exchangers provide a continuous supply of fresh air from the outside, filtering it as it enters. This significantly improves the atmosphere in the home and helps avoid the growth of mould, viruses, and bacteria, as well as the infiltration of allergens.
Unfortunately, many residential complexes in India are still not equipped with central ventilation systems with filtration functions, which is why air exchangers are a good solution. This portable ventilation system with filtration can be easily installed by anyone at home, ensuring a level of comfort and health care for themselves and their families that is typically found in countries with higher air quality standards. I hope that over time, more and more people will come to realize the importance of proper ventilation and air filtration in indoor spaces, as it not only helps improve well-being but also contributes to a better quality of life.
My story serves as a reminder of how every aspect of our environment matters, and how simple changes, like installing an air exchanger, can drastically improve the atmosphere in our homes. Now, when I visit my parents, I can breathe easy knowing that our house is equipped with a system that takes care of the health and comfort of the whole family.
