Ashok Vatika, which is commonly referred to as Park No 2, occupies a central location in Suncity, enveloped by the C and D blocks. Catering to all age groups, the park has become a centre for various activities throughout the day such as walks, yoga sessions, social gatherings and games for kids. Over the past years, the park has undergone several developments which have further contributed to its beauty.
Weeks before the RWA was established, two residents, Rajeev Sinha and Anju Sinha (D-39), took it upon themselves to work towards the betterment of this park. They invested an immense amount of effort into converting the initially barren park into a stunning and vibrant one.
Eventually, other volunteers took over and a dynamic group called Active Residents was formed by Mr. Majid and Sanjay Bajaj which now consists of over 50 participants, all dedicated towards the development of the park. A handful of enthusiastic residents had taken independent initiatives to contribute to the park’s plants and services. The efforts of two on-ground volunteers, Shazia Hashmi and Seema Chugh (D81 First floor) have been instrumental in lifting park no 2 to greater heights.
Sanjay Bajaj has assumed the role of actively communicating with the residents visiting and living around the park. The SRWA President – Kuldeep Rana, Chairman – Kusum Sharma and a very enthusiastic Abhimanyu Khanna, have provided the volunteers with the required support and have personally put in efforts for the park’s development.
With contributions pouring in from various quarters, Park No. 2 has experienced several notable changes in recent times. These include the installation of a captivating new canopy at a location favoured by the majority of residents and the restoration of the old canopy by clearing overgrown plants and weeds. Trees and smaller plants were moved to establish a balanced environment, where larger trees line the perimeter and flowering plants decorate the inside. Empty beds were carefully filled with a variety of blossoming plants and new hedges and boundary grills were added to match the placement of new gates. Watering valves, previously situated outside the park, have been repositioned within, facilitated by a new network of water pipes provided by SRWA.
The gardeners are trained regularly by our dedicated volunteers to make sure their skills are up to date and suitable to their plans for the park. Medicinal plants such as Harsinghas, Drumstick and amlas have also been planted along with an array of new creepers and flowering plants. However, cleanliness and proper green management have been taken into account by the volunteers and are an integral part of the park’s daily routine.
Looking ahead, several projects are to be taken up including termite treatment as needed, enhanced fertilizer regimens for all greens, seasonal flowering plantations, the introduction of carts for better waste/material mobility, and additional water pipes to improve irrigation capabilities. A transformative plan involving establishing a smaller fountain to be encircled by a vibrant flower bed.
The volunteers look forward to invaluable suggestions and constructive feedback from the residents of Suncity and propelling Ashok Vatika to greater heights.
