A few complaints of lost and found dogs made me wonder how every year most of these complaints of dogs losing their way back home are highest after Diwali. On the 24th of October while stepping out of the house my heart was full of joy when I saw our grown-up four-legged street boy run towards me as I opened the gate to step out. However he wasn’t interested in meeting me, instead, he walked past me and ran straight towards the basement stairs. I walked towards him slowly and noticed he had snuggled inside in a safe spot in an attempt to save himself from the loud noise of the crackers being burst at a distance. While this was an incident before Karva Chauth, two days before Diwali the same stray got an opportunity to walk straight into my house to find a safe space near the staircase and he refused to move out, we had to lift him and take him out.
Upon sharing, Mona Bhardwaj also from L-4, shared that some notorious kids have even thrown these crackers inside her house gate in an attempt to scare her pet dog. All of this raises only one question in my mind, why are we so insensitive towards animals? Do we blame our festivities for making us do it or are we so inhuman?
