Solutions and sensitizing is just as important
by Devika Dang (Student Grade 9; B-13)
We tend to point out all the good and jolly factors of living in a society rather than actually going deep and working on the flaws that many face in today’s time. And one flaw that I would really want our society to work on is the hostile behaviour of the residents towards street dogs.
Today, in a world where we feel “superior” to dogs in our societies, we see dogs being beaten up by sticks, and treated as inferiors, for what? dog bites?
But have we taken a step back to realise our folly? No. Have we thought of a way to prevent all this? NO.
The main motive which is triggered inside our brains is to kill, threaten or simply make them disappear.
Solutions for all these clashes between mankind and strays are right in front of our eyes but have merely been ignored.
There are animal welfare helplines, neutering and spaying centres and NGOs ready to help at any second. Moreover, shelters behind the sector would be an effective measure for all the stray dogs who have been homeless, residents who don’t want to see dogs at all and even for the dog-feeders and well-wishers who don’t want to lose them for the sake of other residents.
Furthermore, sensitizing the youth and future generations about animal welfare is just as important. Conducting workshops on how to prevent dog bites, how to handle them and guidelines on feeding strays in the society, will not only educate them but will ensure that the same negative thinking does not creep into their minds and spread the venom to others.
Only if the RWA takes action, only if we as residents, raise voice for the voiceless, only then will the sector grow. Only then I can proudly say that Sector-92 is truly my home!
