Horticulture in Emerald Court at the Regained Open Space

Horticulture is a science and art of growing plants and trees. In Emerald Court, RWA gives intense focus and special emphasis on Horticulture. Lots of effort went to make society campus clean and green by planting different trees, ornamental plants, flowers, lush green hedges and gardens. This has not only enhanced the beauty of our society campus but also provides lush green healthy environment to our residents.

A special Horticulture Committee was constituted to look after the entire area. The committee, with the cooperation of all residents and gardeners, takes care of the entire area. The entire society is decorated with different plants and flowers; the ground is carpeted with green grass providing good place for society members to spend quality time outside their home.

Some of the important trees planted in the society, after demolition of the twin towers, are of different variety of fruits like, Amla, Mango, Guava (Amrood), Pomgernate (Anar), Papaya, Sahjana, Chikoo, Bel patra,  Shammi, Banana, etc.

Along the Vijayapath, beautiful hedge of Tekoma (yellow flowers) and Ashoka trees were planted.  Some trees of beautiful colours of flowers planted were: Tabebuia chrysanthus, Court, Christian, etc.

During this current year, we have planted more than 15 varieties of flowers in the society i.e. Calendula, Poppy, Marigold, Salvia, Dog flower, Ice plant,  Neksium,  sweet William, sweet Gallium, Germanium, Dahlia, Bebuna, Guldawedi, Axora, Stalk, Petunia and Phlox.

We have also started collecting medicinal plants and during the coming rainy season we will be able to plant more than 20/30 medicinal plants for education of the society children. Our gardens are developed on the basement, which did not let us grow different varieties of plants since water is also salty.

We making more efforts to improve further with better landscape and selecting plants with small roots.

Divya Gupta of Aspire 2 has appreciated this recent development in the following words – “Our horticulture committee members and society gardeners have worked diligently to transform our shared spaces into enchanting havens of natural beauty by planting a kaleidoscope of flowers in our community garden. The committee members meticulously researched and selected a diverse array of flowering plants, considering factors such as climate suitability, soil, seasonal variation, and the aesthetic appeal of the blooms.

“The horticulture committee incorporated eco-friendly practices into their gardening efforts. From composting organic waste to implementing water-saving irrigation systems, every step was taken with an eye toward minimizing the ecological footprint of the garden.”
