Baking is an art, an amalgamation of creativity, passion, patience & taste. A few people love to bake as a hobby while others turn it into a profession. I got a chance to speak with a few home
bakers in Espacia & to know more about them.
Reetu Kansal (T-37/ 201) is a teacher by profession & a baker by passion. She teaches in M. S Pratibha School (Mayur Vihar). ”I started baking 20 yrs. back with a colleague who was equally passionate about baking.“
Later, Reetu started baking cakes as a professional, creating her own variations. Demand for her cakes has been increasing. She’s able to balance her passion & profession thanks to proper time management. ”The best feedback I’ve received was from a 90+ elderly person. He tasted the cake & said it was the best cake he’d had in his entire life. That touched my heart!“
Sometimes there are clients who put absurd demands or time constraints which are difficult to pull off. This puts Reetu in a fix. ”My strongest bakery skill is putting efforts for authenticity, freshness, & taste in my cakes.“
Reetu’s plan is to open a pre – order bakery. Her other passions are home décor & teaching children for a better tomorrow.
Madhu Singh (T-35/ 603) is a single parent with two grownup kids. She started baking as a professional in 2017 after earning her food diploma from Pankaj Bhadouriya Culinary Academy. “I worked at the India Habitat Centre as a chef for two years & turned into a home baker later for personal reasons.“
Madhu tries to manage her passion & household responsibilities simultaneously. Her best feedback was when a customer ate an Almond Jaggery Cake in minutes & ordered it again right after. ”My strongest bakery skill is making dry cakes which are loved by all my customers.“
Madhu would like to expand her passion through online orders. In future, she hopes to see her own bakery. “Apart from baking, I love to cook too; I cater healthy, homecooked & tasty food.“
Radhika Mathur (T-37/ 1903) is a mother of adorable twins. She started baking when she was in Mumbai. She started with healthy & nutritious cakes to satiate her children’s sweet tooth. ”After getting rave reviews from my kids’ friends, there was no looking back!“
Radhika’s best feedback was when a customer couldn’t believe that a cake could be so delicious using a boring vegetable like bottle gourd. Her strongest bakery skill is gluten free cakes. ”I wish to promote my products as customised gift packs.“
Other than baking, Radhika makes fresh fruit jams without artificial colouring & preservatives. She’s also a tarot card reader & is pursuing an international degree in dream signs & symbols interpretation.
It was lovely talking to all of them and knowing them a little more!
