This homage to my father may sound personal but it carries a message for both fathers and children. If the fathers are known in the society for their honesty and fair judgment, the children take pride in them and adore them for the rest of their lives.
My father late Sri Trilok Nath Kapoor left us for his heavenly abode on 7th December 1982. He was a great soul who was worshiped for his honesty and loved for his fair judgment. Though he was a jamidar, he had his finance business too in Punjab, now Pakistan. At the time of partition he had in his custody valuables of clients who had taken money and loans. He started sending notices to all those clients, informing that he was closing the business so that they could stop the transactions. Some of them did respond yet there were many more who did not. So he carried the liability with him to Kolkata where he settled after partition. As soon as he reached Kolkata after surmounting the partition blues, he found out the whereabouts of the irresponsible lot and sent them money orders of their dues after sale of their dharohar and settlement. This was a shining example of his honesty. The legacy of the Kapoor dynasty. How many people take so much trouble.
He used to show us the right path by narrating parables which are quite fresh in the memory of all us siblings. They are stories in themselves with a hidden meaning. I can narrate some of them at a later date. He never believed in bragging about his children and singing praises of their successes. For him real praise was one which comes from outside us and critics. All of us siblings, are grateful to God for giving us such parents on whom we can take pride. God bless their souls. Your loving children Sukeshini, Suhasini, Jagat Kapoor and their respective families.
