Holika Dahan Fights with Elements

The five elements — Earth, Fire, Water, Air, and Space, are important for all of us. Our body is also made of these elements, and we cannot survive without them. Most of the time, they help us, but sometimes, they turn aggressive. Earthquakes, volcanoes, tsunamis, floods, and storms are examples of this.

Something similar happened during Holika Dahan on March 13 at Wellington. A big crowd had gathered, waiting for the ceremony to begin at 7:30 PM. Many food stalls were also set up, adding to the festive mood. As soon as the Holika fire was lit, bright golden flames rose towards the sky. Suddenly, a strong wind and thunderstorm started, making the flames spread in all directions.

Since the space was already crowded due to food stalls, people got scared and started running in different directions. Luckily, a fire officer was present, and he acted quickly. He used a fire extinguisher, and the security guards also helped by throwing water and sand on the fire. The situation could have become very dangerous as the stalls were too close, and their canopies could have caught fire. But thanks to the quick action of the fire officer and guards, and God’s grace, the fire was brought under control, and the event continued smoothly.

Later, we heard that some condominiums had a tough time as their pandal caught fire, and they had to call the fire brigade.

On March 14, the final day of Holi, the celebrations continued with rain dance, DJ music, and lots of colors and gulaal. WECA distributed gujhia and drinks, adding to the festive spirit. The event started at 10:30 AM and went on till 1 PM, making it a day full of fun and happiness.
