Independence Day is a momentous occasion and celebrated with lot of enthusiasm all over India. Panchshila Park also saw the same. Inspite of the sultry oppressive weather, the turnout was huge —old, young and small. We were honoured to have Gen. V.N.Sharma, PVSM, AVSM, ADC(Retd),former Chief of the Army staff as Chief Guest who delighted us with his varied experiences of his glorious career. He greeted everyone present with a firm handshake and Namaste to show respect to the ladies. The Gen. along with President of the Society, Mr.Rajesh Chopra hoisted the national flag. A well choreographed cultural programme was presented by the children of “Rainbows Montessori School”-S Block. Through a spectrum of music, dance, speech and poetry and in traditional attire, the children exuberated confidence and reminding everyone of the love and unity for our nation. The menu was bigger and saw the residents bond over tea, coffee and snacks. I feel it is time we move further from formal ceremonies and organize competitions, exhibitions for the children to bring residents together in a spirit of camaraderie.
