Here Begins The Rat Race Again!

The matters contained in this article are an echo of my thoughts and do not, directly, indirectly, or even sub-consciously point at anyone’s sincerity or genuineness and I hereby ask for, in advance, my forgiveness in the unlikelihood that some of the elements contained in my article might, in general terms, portray, resemble, reflect (or doubt) anybody’s integrity, honesty and trustworthiness. All such resemblances are, as they vow at the beginning of most of the feature films, absolutely coincidental.

The festivities round-the-corner this year coincide with the Assembly Elections and that is what adds to it, the fervour, the zeal, and the enthusiasm amongst people at large being generally in a happy and a cheerful mood plus, isn’t the weather great this October? The best time to woo people is by inviting them to surrogate activities like sammelans or functions with high tea snacks, meals, and other free-bees, under the garb of which, they usually slide in the very intended eulogy about the candidate in the race.

India would be the best place, nay, a paradise to live in, where people would have great health and, with the government standing by their side and holding their hands at all times, they would grow, prosper, and flourish. Janata will lead a healthy life, their children will have the best of education, get guaranteed Sarkari jobs, ladies will be bestowed upon with all sorts of grants, absolute security, and will live happily forever after… Janata at large will have pucca roads and a crime-free environment. Why not? Don’t these claims closely resemble the promises the candidates routinely make in their well-worded, bullet-pointed, and colourfully beautiful manifestoes? Haven’t we seen this format come up and re-appear each time the elections are round the corner? I have seen most of them claiming to solve society’s problems at the macro and micro levels. Wow !! That sounds great, doesn’t it?

WHY THE RACE TO THE OFFICE? An MLA draws a handsome salary, gets an office with secretarial facilities, free transport, accommodation allowance, travel allowance, medical facilities, and pension for the remainder of his life in addition to the fame, the clout authority, the convenience, and the privilege of getting things done for people at large. They are, over and above their already ‘affluent’ well-provided lifestyles and are, therefore, ‘done for life’…

I do not wish to, by any means, question the credibility of these contestants with regard to their reliability, their educational backgrounds, or about their records with the law but some of them seem to be really deserving of the post, and can bring about a change in the society and, therefore, need to be given a fair chance.
